In 1993 a group of very talented professional theatre people formed a company in order to stage a production that co-founder Vivienne Atkins had long dreamed of bringing to the Huntsville stage. After viewing a riveting performance of Sweeney Todd at a cast party in 1985, Vivienne was motivated to pool the talent and creativity of Huntsville's finest actors and technical artists for the project. The curtain went up, and Independent Musical Productions was born with its premiere production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. There was a company, a fine production, and the potential for a great future.

Since then, IMPHuntsville has provided high-quality theatre to the North Alabama area by putting world-class work on stage. We also strive to educate and mentor tomorrow's actors and theater technicians. We share a partnership with the Performing Arts Magnet Program at Lee High School and the Academy for Academics and Arts. Vivienne was an educator with Huntsville City Schools for the majority of her career. Many of IMP's faces today - both on stage and behind the scenes - are her former students or their children. As a result, we look to forge partnerships that will continue to give tomorrow's generation the opportunity to be exposed to - and participate in - a theatrical production such those we present.

We suggest visiting our sections on our past shows and past cabarets for cast lists, photographs, and more.
